APW - Hamilton, "Mermod & Jaccard's St. Louis Paragon Time-Keeper" with hourglass image to mvt and dial, Grade 943, 21J, 18S, gold-filled HC recase with attractive engraving detail, front shield with initials, decorative case paper inserted inside front, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, gilt mvt screws and regulator assembly, gilt disk surrounding balance jewel setting, narrow stripe pattern nickel damascene, s#239015. An attractive example of this rare watch, the "Mermod & Jaccard's St. Louis Paragon Time-Keeper" has a unique appearance with elegant hourglass logo to its movement and dial. These watches were made by Hamilton in four grades of 21 jewel movement (940, 941, 942 and 943) as well as two grades of 17 jewel movement (926 and 927). The Grade 942 and Grade 943 versions are the finest quality of these grades and are the only version of the "Paragon Time-Keeper" to feature gilt screws and regulator assembly. CONDITION:
Mvt: Running after a twist to start, setting lever must be held out while in fully extended position to engage setting mechanism, overhaul recommended, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, abrasion to inner perimeter of barrel bridge adjacent regulator adjustment screw, some fine to micro-fine scratches elsewhere, some mild gilt loss to areas of regulator assembly; nearly flawless dial with few small fine to micro-fine scratches, some mild beveling rub of perimeter under bezel; fine hands with some areas of finish loss, hour with slight bend; case shows very light wear, shallow denting to front, dents to band at 11 and 1, some nicks or mild dings elsewhere to band, mild overall reduction of engraving detail, inner surface of case front with discoloration at center likely from a past gold content testing, cuvette with some play at its hinge and cuvette moved loosely through its opening/closing range of motion; tight bow, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
